Washington Future Business Leaders of America (Regional)
Washington State FBLA is a subsection of the national Future Business Leaders of America. The state has multiple regions in the state as well as various chapters in those. Chapters set up programs of work modified to best meet the needs of their memberships, schools, and communities, and so they are basically clubs within the bigger club that is FBLA. There are many chapters in Washington State, but one that is located in the Lake Washington area is that of the International Community School (ICS) in Kirkland, WA, located in the West Central Region of the state. The current state president is Si Cave, of North Thurston High School.
The mission of Washington State FBLA is “to bring business and education together in a positive working relationship through innovative leadership and career development programs” in order to prepare students for business careers in the future and all business related things that they may encounter. Membership in FBLA in Washington is open to students in grades 7-12 throughout the state,; however, at ICS, membership is only from 9th to 12th grade.
Within FBLA, there is a certain professional edge for students that is received through their membership in Future Business Leaders of America. They gain very valuable leadership skills through planning and participation in various classroom activities such as community service as well as in leading groups in competitions and other programs, development of speaking and presentation skills, conference attendance, skill application, networking opportunities, and travel. All of these things are vital for success in the future, and FBLA consists of the gaining of all of these things.
